Chapter History
Seeing the need for representation of strong Latina womxn at the Occidental College and in the Greek community, a group of womxn found that Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. best fit the ideals of a premier organization. Soon thereafter, these womxn met to create the Oxy interest group of Sigma Lambda Gamma in the spring semester of 2002; they called themselves "Culturas Unidas."
On July 10, 2004 the Sigma Lambda Gamma National Board of Directors granted the colony of Occidental College chapter status. It was on this day that we became the Epsilon Gamma Chapter and the first multicultural sorority on campus. The nine founders; Christina Ordonez, Rosie Perez, Sandra Fuentes, Michelle Najarro, Yliana Johansen, Francis Ortega, Crissi Ortega, Diana Martinez, and Angie Calderon - set the foundation for what would become a strong sisterhood and support system for many womxn at Occidental.
